Though the popularity of a mainstream, eco-friendly entertainment show like G Word wouldn't have been possible fifty years ago, the practice of being environmentally friendly started long before going green became popular en masse. In fact, enlightened people were shrinking their ecological footprints long before any of us were even born.
Early Green Timeline
1200 A.D. - In the middle of a wood shortage, Greeks and Romans began building cities and houses towards the sun to make use of solar energy. 1272 - England's King Edward I banned his country from burning coal because he was not satisfied with the level of air pollution caused by the resulting smoke. Unfortunately, even though the ban came with the threat of execution or torture if caught burning coal, almost no one stopped using this popular heating fuel.
1366 - Realizing that the rotting animal carcasses and other waste from butchers and leather producers heavily polluted the city's air and water supply, Parisian lawmakers forced people working with animals and animal skins to dispose of the remains outside of the city.
